Stouts are regularly dark earthy colored to completely dark in shading. A typical profile among Stouts, however not in all cases, is the utilization of roasted grain (unmalted grain that is kilned to the point of being scorched) which loans a dry character to the beer just as an enormous roasted flavor that can extend from consumed to espresso to chocolate. Customary English Stout recipes depend on bitterness from the roasted grain to give a dry completion and therefore will in general show almost no hop character.
