The brewery established on Rua Marquês de Sapucahí, where the parade of samba schools in Rio de Janeiro would later take place, produced, in principle, around 12 thousand liters of beer per day. In September of that year, Villiger registered the Brahma trademark with the Commercial Registry of the Capital of the Empire. The origin of the name is controversial: it could be due to the Swiss's sympathy for Indian culture or to admiration for the composer Johannes Brahms. But it is most likely a tribute to the inventor of the draft beer, the Englishman Joseph Bramah.
From then on, the history of the brand and beer are partially confused, but the brewery started to invest in other markets, within the beverage area. Soda lines were created, such as Guaraná Brahma, Limão Brahma, and Sukita, among others.
In 1999, it merged with Companhia Antarctica Paulista, to form the Companhia de Bebidas das Américas ( AmBev ). Despite the merger, AmBev continued to sell Brahma beer with the same previous characteristics, and the same name. However, due to the merger, it was decided that only Antarctica sodas would remain on sale, and several Brahma sodas were extinguished.
