BrewDog was established in Fraserburgh in 2007 by James Watt and Martin Dickie.

In 2009, BrewDog bought their first bar, close by Aberdeen. Toward the finish of 2018, the organization, and its franchisees, worked 78 bars around the world.

In 2011, BrewDog was portrayed as "one of the main players" behind the mission which changed the law in 2011 to permit new beer measures in Britain.

2011 likewise observed the organization offered crowdfunding shares adding up to £2 million, the equivalent of 8% of the capital of the organization. The offers were sold at £23.75 and went with a few advantages, for example, limits in their bars and online acquisition of their beers, and the chance to go to their yearly investor's gathering.

The principle brewing moved from Fraserburgh to close by Ellon in 2012. In 2014, the organization finished tasks in Fraserburgh.

In March 2015, BrewDog was granted £1.5m in Regional Selective Assistance. That very month, the organization declared designs to build its workforce by 130 representatives.

In February 2016, BrewDog publicly released its beer recipes to people in general, making them a type of Free Beer.

Private value firm, TSG Consumer Partners procured a 22% stake in the organization for around £213 million in April 2017.

In February 2018, BrewDog declared that it intends to assemble a $30 million creation brewery and pub on an 11,000 square meters (120,000 sq ft) greenfield site in the Metroplex complex at Murarrie, in Brisbane, Australia. In November 2019, the organization declared that it would grow its impression in the United States with another refinery.

In December 2019 BrewDog opened its first bar in Ireland, at the Capital Dock improvement in the upmarket Grand Canal Dock territory of Dublin.

In January 2020, BrewDog opened its first sans alcohol bar in London.
